About the event
Join Claudia Bernardi and local mural artist and founder of Mending Walls Hamilton Glass as they discuss Claudia's debut book Art Against Brutality. Art Against Brutality brings a much-needed contribution to the field of community arts. It offers healing for survivors of terror in Latin America (El Salvador, Guatemala, Colombia, Argentina, México) and with Indigenous people of California in the United States. It outlines truly collaborative approaches, based on ideas from the community participants, rather than shaped by the facilitating artist. Often the form of the art project is a mural, in which the participants decide on the theme and storyline.
As local Virginia artists, Claudia and Hamilton will explore the meaning of collaborative arts and the impact murals have on the people in the community.
